ST. ALBANS, Vt. — The bipartisan nonprofit organization Better Angels stopped in St. Albans on Monday as part of its tour across the country.

"We got started after the election,” said Ciaran O’Connor, of Better Angels. “We noticed in communities across the country there was a lot of mistrust and rancor, so even if people were disagreeing on the issues, they were also just having trouble talking."

Neighbors and lawmakers of all political persuasions took part in conversation workshops in City Hall.

St. Albans resident Kate LaRose helped bring Better Angels to Vermont.

She told NBC5 News the event helped her community come together.

"After the election, I had a lot of concerns. I wasn't feeling hopeful. I was feeling scared. And I wanted to figure out a way that I could talk to other community members and turn that fear into something a little more constructive,” said LaRose.

Better Angels hopes to do a second tour, of Southern states, in the fall.
